Converting Trash To Renewable Fuel

The Next Step to a Renewable Future

Changing The Way We Think About Managing Waste

Every day we create a carbon footprint based on factors like what we consume to what we throw away. At Renovare Environmental we are focused on educating and empowering municipalities and organizations to embrace the use of alternative fuels and reduce that carbon footprint.

Renovare Environmental introduces a proven, clean alternative to landfill for the disposal of solid waste to the United States. For municipalities facing landfill end of life issues, our technology can extend the useful life by 500x. Our facilities can be thought of as a renewable landfill that has no finite capacity.

The nation’s first fully operational resource recovery facility, located in Martinsburg, West. Virginia, utilizes a mechanical biological treatment (“MBT”) process.

The process utilizes a combination of automated sorting equipment, enhanced biological composting, and mechanical refinement to convert waste into an alternative fuel. During the process, recyclable commodities such as metals, are extracted and recovered in conjunction with a community’s current recycling program. The technology allows for up to 80% diversion of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) and C&I (Construction and Industrial Waste) from landfills. This waste generated locally can be managed locally, reducing transportation costs and distances.

Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) is a sustainable and deliverable source of renewable energy.  The use of SRF can displace fossil fuels and their associated CO2 emissions.

SRF is the principal output at the facility which is designed to process Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) and produce SRF.  SRF is produced to a defined specification.  Close monitoring and testing of the fuel through accredited laboratories provides a high level of quality assurance and control.

As SRF has a high carbon neutral biomass content, its use can displace the CO2 emissions associated with the use of fossil fuels.  As a key driver for numerous businesses in seeking to comply with legislative targets, the carbon agenda has made the use of fuels such as SRF increasingly appealing.

The use of SRF can reduce fuel costs as well as environmental impacts.  We can guarantee quality, security of supply and price over contract periods of up to 10 years.

The SRF undergone initial testing with a US-based engineering firm servicing the federal government, to use its SRF as a replacement for coal in thermal processing applications for steam boilers and power plants and is also collaborating with a renewable materials manufacturer based in Israel that is expected to begin testing the SRF as feedstock for its renewable thermoplastic.

This technology is ideal for municipalities, regional waste haulers, large generators of food waste and corporations with Zero Waste initiatives.

  • Produces a high-quality EPA recognized Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF)
  • Reduces landfill usage by up to 80%.
  • Addresses the non-recyclable plastics problem.
  • Delivers a zero-landfill solution.
  • No increased costs to haulers or municipalities.
  • Outside environment is not exposed to waste.
  • Improved working conditions:
    • Waste is unloaded and processed inside the facility.
    • BioFilter removes odors and contaminants.
    • Fully automated, with no workers sorting or handling waste.

A future with less waste is a future less wasted

Our Team

Vice President of Science, Research, and Development

Emily has more than 25 years in the environmental science and permitting field. Emily comes to BioHiTech Global from the environmental consulting world where she was the CEO of Dyson Environmental Management and Compliance. Ms. Dyson has worked throughout North America with clients and regulators on issues related to solid waste disposal, wastewater, air emissions, and overall industrial environmental program development.

Emily’s role as the Vice President of Science, Research and Development is to bring advanced techniques and understanding of the science of bio-technologies. Emily works with BioHiTech Global’s Operations personnel to identify new approaches and technologies for solid waste disposal and assist BioHiTech Global in bringing them to the market in the bio-technology/waste management arena. In addition, Emily works with BioHiTech’s sales force and clients to ensure that they have an understanding of the science they deploy, the impacts to the surrounding environment, and the regulatory compliance requirements that must be met.

Emily lives in Maryland with her husband and two college-age children.
